    Ollie said it all.

I find them to be a pain in the A$$, due to the extra Administration time wasted as compared to a normal transaction, BUT we are trying to “help” our client save or at least use this “extended warranty that covers EVERYTHING” [or at least that’s the part they remember during the pitch]  I always say we can help with the warranty coverage but it will take longer due to Authorization times, I will need a copy of your policy, not just the number, INSERT HERE Olies rule they are awesome.  and I will be sending an authorization to you for the total amount – Less what the Warranty Company [WC] is covering example, WC covers the condenser and not the drier, seals, diag, and re charge, so total estimate is 1200 plus tax, the customer has to authorize this first, and then accept that the wc will cover 599.00 -100.00 so the Balance [except in Tom’s case] is 1200.00 -499.00 = $701.00 customer 499.00 WC , see simple right?? LOL, a lot of admin time that is in billable.

like it was Said, those numbers are a little high, 1.2M sales/ 1700 car/ROs puts you average ticket at $700. ?

I do 1.1M at $444.75 @ 50 cars avg a week [M-F only] with 2 licenced techs and 2 licenced apprentices , 1 main advisor, 1 junior advisor, and my self in the back ground managing

My back ground is 30+ years Licenced Mechanic > then shop owner/advisor > then manager/owner

    Regards M.

  • Well Tina like Tom said our livlyhood is made up of parts and labor revenue. Just like you friendly neighborhood Steakhouse. You wouldn’t go there and say hey instead of your steak for 20.09 can I bring my own from Topps for 3.99, and just charge me the labour for thowing it on the grill, of course not they are selecting the steak, keeping it tender, grilling it just right, putting it on a clean plate, bringing it to the table and washing the dishes after

Just like us, we are selecting the best “strut”  (steak) verifiying it’s not damaged or leaking (tender and fresh), installing it correctly (grilling at correct temp) with any add ons that are required like mounts or stab links ( spices, sauce, or mushrooms) and adding a wheel alignment ( baked potato)

We add value like when our supplied part fails or is incorrect we take care of it (added value) if there supplied part is incorrect or damaged we have to charge our labour rate for the hoist time while they source a second one

( good luck with that) and then also upset a customer

I have 5 employees, and cell phones are not a problem they are kept on silent and kept in there tool box until break time, we had a shuttle that we caught taking to long to drive a customer, one of my techs seen him on the side of the road txt ing his friends, 1 (ONE) warning is all I gave him to straighten up or leave.
As for the uniform, there is no discussion, this is what you wear here to work here.
In the summer I have company Tee shirts for the extreme humidity in summer, and I only see those a few times, mostly worn as under shirts in winter

My techs are performance based, but my apprentice and support staff are not.

My adviser is on his phone sometimes but also txt ing a customer too. But he is performance based also and that tends to police it self

I do have to remind the younger ones to Tuck in there shirts etc,

we use Protractor .Net and i give it a “9”  we used Pace for many years, then moved over to Protractor in 2003? But they are nothing compared to .Net, we switched in April 14′ it still has some things to fix, but weekly bug fixes, upgrades and enhancements are great. I like that i can have multipul RO’s open [if need be] and add service packages from the inspection results, then estimate all jobs in one sweep, and the Oil change packages, with default MIN/MAX $ is excellent for oil sell prices
