    *Referrals from other repair shops in the area are one of the largest sources of
    business for many shops. It helps greatly if you spend some time getting to know
    them. People tend to refer others to people who they have met.

    Make a list of shops in your area, then set aside some time (half of a day each
    week or one day each month) to visit them.

    Introduce yourself:

    Hello, my name is _______________ and I am from _________________ (your
    shop).

    I wanted to stop by and meet you.
    I wanted to find out what are the main things that you do at your shop.

    Sometimes we need shops to refer certain types of work to.

    At _____________________ (your shop), our main focus is on
    _______________________ (your specialties).

    If I can help you with any technical information, unique problems, special tools,
    parts, or _________________, feel free to give me a call.

    We have factory service information, factory parts access, special tools, parts in
    stock, and ________________ for ______________________ (your specialties).

    Hand them two of your business cards.

    Take as much time as they want to take to chat whether it is very little or a lot.

    Listen and learn as much as you can.

    Remember to send or bring them a thank-you gift for any referrals. Some type of
    food usually works well.
