Feature #4 – Service History from other Shops
A link to service history from other shops is available on the service history screen in the software. This brings up all reported service history including dates and miles from both your shop and other shops on a separate screen. The benefits of having this information are many – just use your imagination. Shops using this feature often find themselves reviewing the service history on every car that comes in.

Sounds great, but who provides this service? I don’t think other shops can see history from my shop

Any CarFax shop can view service history from any other CarFax shop (or dealer) *IF* that feature is built into their management software.
If your license / VIN decoding is tied into CarFax through your management software there is a good chance that all the service that you do is reported to them and is available to shops that have the software.The information includes the service, the miles and the date performed. No personal customer information is available.You can get this information no charge on your own vehicles by going to MyCarFax.com -
I am not sure that this functionality is very common as of yet. Janco has it for sure. i could not find anyone else but I am sure there are others. http://members.stocktrac.com/?p=897

Protractor Software has both CARFAX QuickVIN lookup as well as CARFAX Repair History integrated into the software at the vehicle card. The history can be easily seen at the repair order level, during pre-service write up … and really any time you want. Cool feature. And the QucikVIN lookup is so easy to start a new vehicle … type in the license plate number, the state and voila … you have the VIN and the vehicle is decoded.
