  • A Timeline Celebrating Women Motor History

From engineers and inventors, to mathematicians and CEOs, CarRentals recently published a timeline to show the importance of gender equality in the automotive industry. Although women hold a good portion of clerical roles in this industry, managerial and executive positions are still mainly held by men — in some cases, the percentage of women holding such roles are in the single digits.

The timeline highlights some of the incredible contributions women have made in motor history. These include inventions like the car heater, turn signals, windshield wipers, the GPS and even Bluetooth. It also includes key takeaways we can gain from their stories, ingenuity and resilience. From one of the first female mechanical engineers to a mathematician that defied both gender and racial prejudices, their stories are nothing short of inspiring.

Encouraging young girls to learn and read about some boundary-breaking idols in the industry is also a great way to encourage them to pursue careers in STEM or other seemingly male-type roles. Keep reading to learn more about these trailblazing car ladies and their achievements.
