Curious as to if anyone was in the Valvoline “Drives” program last year. It is a customer recruitment and retention program that is free to shops when they carry bulk and synthetic oils. Once per device/customer per year, a customer can text a code to a number for a chance to win an instant free oil change or they receive a $7.50 coupon via text within 2 days for a high mileage or syn. oil change. If they use the $7.50 coupon and send a picture of it to the platform, they get a $10 coupon, followed by a $12 coupon and it tops out at $15. They need to do 4 oil changes on something a year to top out at the $15 off. Coupons are good for 150 days. They get reminders prior to coupon expiration. You can get additional entries, up to 4 per year if you are willing to share the promo(see below).

The unusual thing is Valvoline Sends You A Check to cover the value of the coupon. Actually, they send it for all coupons redeemed in a quarter, in a single check. Coupons only good for high mileage blends and all full synthetic.

Mostly curious as to whether customers use the platform and are stores finding it drives traffic. Are customers engaging it?

I like the idea because it causes us to have a conversation with the customer helping them understand how to “play” the game to get the most return, and i don’t have to pay for it.

Their conventional bulk prices are comparable to my Service Pro price. Their HM and syns are more but not a ton more. Mostly curious how the program works for attracting new customers. Even in my part of the world, it might be nice to have several thousand(?) folks with coupons on their phone that they get reminded of prior to expiration.

They are committed to giving away 18,000 instant oil changes a year with the program. Not a huge amount, but not just a token amount either.

You can get an example by texting the word Drivestest to 30364
