Gabe, I get asked this question many times by the top performers in a shop. The challenge with many Shop Owners is the better YOU are at what you do, the more the expectations they have for YOU. Because many Shop Owners are unwilling to face the fact they have some wrong people in their shop, confront the behavior of that tech, they would much rather push YOU to do more. All quality techs have created a pace they are comfortable with, but when there is a mess that has been made, rather than reaching out to the person who created the mess, they come to YOU to clean up along with the work you are already doing. The challenge for you is YOU want to tell them “NO” but your commitment to excellence and customer care won’t let you. Here is the solution, but it is not an easy one. You need to confront this behavior with the Shop Owner. Don’t let a situation YOU didn’t create be pushed back on YOU! They need is to address the issue with the person who created the mess. YOU shouldn’t be held responsible to solve a situation the Shop Owner doesn’t want to face. YOU are there to be the quality Tech YOU are, not the clean-up specialist!!
Tough to do, but it is the right thing to do!!
