In house except for the annual stuff that is better suited to an accountant.

We created our own “monthly statement for idiots” that makes more sense to me than any accounting statement I’ve ever seen.
I’d be curious to know what others do.

We use a CPA along with PrimePay. They handle payroll and payroll tax disbursement.

For those shops who choose to do in house accounting with Quickbooks.  Here is a quick tip to get your transactions from MaxxTraxx, an auto repair shop management software, into Quickbooks.

    • In MaxxTraxx, click on the Accounting menu
      item at the very top.
    • Then click on Export to QuickBooks
    • The Export Transactions dialog box will open
      up.
    • In this window you will choose your export dates and other
parameters to generate your list of transactions.
    • Select your transactions individually or click the Select
All button to get them all.
    • Click the Export Selected Items button at the
bottom left hand side when you are ready.

This should export a dated file that has a .IIF file
extension at the end to the following location:  c:Scott SystemsMaxxTraxx ProExport

    • Log in to your data file as the Administrator.
    • Switch to single user (SU) mode.
    • From the File menu, choose Utilities , select Import and click IIF Files.
    • Browse to the location of your IIF file and highlight the file.
    • Click Open.
    • QuickBooks pops a message confirming your data has been imported.
    • Click OK on the message.
You have now successfully imported transactions into Quickbooks from MaxxTraxx.

In house to generate P&L statements.  Our bank (wells fargo) does our Payroll.   We then send our P&L statements and Payroll statements to CPA for taxes.

I’ve been a full-time bookkeeper for several years, but I’m wanting to work specifically with mechanics. You guys have unique problems, that only your industry deals with – and I’d love to hear about what is the hardest part of bookkeeping for you? Is it communication with your CPA? Wanting more free time? Lack of knowledge?

I’m working on a website right now (linked below), but if any of you would like to get in contact, I’d be happy to answer questions or help in any way I can.
